Meet Some of Our Dolphins
 | Jacknife (#0065) has an interestingly shaped dorsal fin. He/she is known to be a southern traveler, going at least as far south as
Wilmington, NC, when not in the Beaufort area. We don't know if Jacknife is a male or a female. |
 |
 | Sgt. Flag (#0067) is another regular summer dolphin who travels to the south at least as far as Wilmington, NC, when not in the
Beaufort area

 | This dolphin's name is Cookie Cutter (#0126). Can't you just see sugar cookies cut in the shape of Cookie Cutter's fin for winter
season celebrations? She was one of our northern travelers, heading to Manteo, NC during warm water months and wintering here. During eighteen years of sightings around Beaufort, we saw her with a calf three separate years. In April of 2006 Cookie Cutter was part of a capture and release program conducted by scientists in the Beaufort area. Like Keyhole, a satellite tag was placed on her dorsal fin. Sadly, soon afterwards she was found dead in the NewPort River area with the tag still attached. We mourn her unfortunate death.

 | Holly (#0080) is another summer dolphin and a known mom. She, too, is a southern traveler frequently seen in Wilmington. We have seen her with three calves since 1985.

 |
 | Wow, what an unusually shaped fin Ocrab (#0086) has! Ocrab is one of our regular winter dolphins who goes at least as far north as Virginia
Beach. Our colleague in Virginia has a last name of Barco. Ocrab is Barco spelled backwards |
 |
 | Rainbow (#0789) is one of our winter moms, coming to us in the winter from her summer waters in the Manteo area. Her fin has changed a lot since we first saw her in October of 1989! Like Moja and Zephyr, Rainbow has a predictable winter life style, coming to us around the end of October or early November and leaving sometime around the end of March or in April. Unlike Moja and Zephyr, Rainbow has not yet been photographed in Virginia Beach. |
