Activities

Kayaking on the Outer Banks

Kayaking is becoming a very popular way for groups to reach the field station.

Green River Preserve from Brevard, NC incorporates the field station into their summer camp kayaking adventures. After a few days of primitive camping on the banks, the field station looks like a "Holiday Inn" to the campers. While at the field station we involve the campers in educational (marine animal id, barrier island ecology, etc.) and conservation (trash pickup, turtle nest relocation, posting bird nesting signs, etc.) activities . Keith usually leads educational slide and/or video presentations on Sea Turtles, Bottlenose Dolphins, kayaking, and/or other topics as well as discusses conservation issues with the campers. One of the highlights of their stay and a favorite of campers and staff alike is Ultiyak, a soccer style game played in kayaks.
