Mr. Bill Harris, Superintendent
Cape Lookout National Seashore
131 Charles Street
Harkers Island, North Carolina 28516

Dear Mr. Harris,

I have been an English teacher at Asheboro High School for thirty years. My hobby is studying about and visiting all parts of our state.

Recently (October 6-8), I participated in the Cape Lookout Studies Program of the North Carolina Maritime Museum. My purpose was to visit the lighthouse. The surprise of the weekend was the ecology emphasis. The lighthouse was not as important as I had thought it would be.

I do not know how often you receive word that Keith Rittmaster and others from the Museum (Chris Jones, Lynn Barker, Tom Jones) are good stewards of Cape Lookout. They are influencing people like me -- a few at at time -- to be better citizens. You should know that their passion is contagious.

I compliment the National Park Service for the partnership with the North Carolina Maritime Museum. Those of us fortunate ones who have been to Cape Lookout with Keith and the others are better people. Thank you for your interest that makes these experiences possible.

Sincerely,

L. Richard Meissner, Jr.
